Overcoming That Hideous Strength
June 7th, 2007
Final exam for Social Science 2, very rough draft. Being a contrary person, I chose one of the more difficult topics (Roszak’s A Dead Man’s Eyes from Where the Wasteland Ends, Habermas, Nietszche) instead of the relatively straightforward topic — one I could certainly relate to — on identity and the internet.
I loved writing every single word of this, though. (I wrote more than half of it a few hours before the deadline, but that didn’t detract from the joy of working on it.) Outlined here are some ideas regarding art and science I’ve never expressed in writing before. People who have been reading my pre-Miamor blogs may note that I struggled for some years with the dilemma, or so I thought, of how to study physics and still remain a lover of art and literature.
The solution was that there was no dilemma at all to begin with, merely a limitation of vision.
I may edit this more later, and will probably cannibalize some parts for a more comprehensive (and deadline-less) paper. Do let me know what you think.
